Great Product Designers Don't Give In
By: Dominic Donaldson

There are a number of great inventions around every corner. If you take a look around you right now you can probably see several. The computer that is sitting in front of you is in its own right a great invention. The monitor whether it is flat screen technology or tubular like the classic televisions is a fantastic invention. How many other great inventions have you used just today? We do it without even realising it.

To make these great inventions take the hard work and effort of a number of product designers who design, plan and manufacture the products that take us to the next level of development as a society. So what do these great product designers have that sets them apart from the rest of us?

Well for a start they have great vision and drive that help them to push on with their convictions when other people might say that's not a good idea. As product designers you need to have the ability to visualise your invention, see the potential that it can offer the world and then have utter trust and belief in your abilities to deliver that product. Along the way people will always try to knock your confidence in your product or invention, some will do it because they are jealous, some will do it because they might want to make you quit before following up on the idea themselves.

The most successful product designers have the ability to stand firm in the face of criticism, whilst allowing for adaptability to their design from interested parties. If some of the famous inventors of our time had listened to the critics then maybe we wouldn't have as many great inventions as we do today. Maybe we would still be watching standard television instead of High Definition television, maybe we would still be using analogue instead of digital, and maybe we wouldn't have ever designed, built and produced airplanes. How different would the world be today if every time you wanted to go on holiday you had to jump on a boat? Planes are just another example of how great product designers can excel themselves.

If you think you have got what it takes to be a great designer, then why not get yourself on a design course in 2010 and maybe you could be the next big thing that we are writing about. It could happen.
